Casper mayor thanks voters for Specific Purpose Sales and Use Tax

Four propositions were approved by voters.

 

Casper, Wyo. (November 7, 2024) – On Tuesday, November 5, four of the eight propositions for the Specific Purpose Sales and Use Tax on the general ballot passed.  Mayor Stephen Cathey responded to the election outcome with a thank you: “To our fellow Casper voters, thank you for being so engaged this election season and taking time to vote.  By voting for Proposition 1 - Metro Animal Shelter; Proposition 5 - Fire Station #1 Land and Design; Proposition 6 - 911 Equipment; and Proposition 8 - Washington Park Bandshell, you have allowed us to take care of some serious community needs.  We value your questions and discussions on these propositions.  You showed up at public meetings and open houses.  You shared your thoughts on social media, through our website, and in phone calls.  Your involvement is what keeps our Casper community strong and thriving. Thank you for the dialog. In the coming weeks, we’ll keep you posted on the next steps through news releases, social media, and City Council meetings. Thank you again for stepping up, speaking out, and being an active part of our city. We will follow your direction and carry these projects forward.”

 

Casper City Council a proposed temporary one percent Specific Purpose Sales and Use Tax be implemented within Casper city limits, and they received Natrona County Commissioners authorization to put eight propositions on the ballot for City of Casper voters. “We based our choices on infrastructure funding needs and chose propositions that are essential infrastructure that drives economic growth, supports community well-being, and enhances quality of life,” stated Casper Mayor Stephen Cathey.  The temporary sixth cent sales tax will go into effect on April 1, 2025 and will be in place for two years or until $18.2 million is reached, whichever comes first.
