Residential Disposal

Residents of Natrona County can drop off wastes free of charge without making an appointment.

What makes a substance hazardous?

When people think of "hazardous waste," they think of chemicals discarded by businesses or industries. Many common household products contain the same chemicals found in industrial hazardous wastes. The threat to human health and/or the environment is based on the specific chemical characteristics of the substances you use.

When determining whether a substance is considered hazardous, ask yourself these questions:
  1. How easily does it catch fire? (Example: gasoline)
  2. How corrosive is it? (Example: oven cleaners)
  3. How toxic is it to humans, animals, or plants? (Example: pesticides)

What should I bring? Products labeled "Use With Caution" or "Flammable" or "Keep Away From Children" are probably hazardous household chemicals. Examples of such products are:
  • Aerosols
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Pesticides
  • Antifreeze
  • Photography Chemicals
  • 1 gallon or more of cooking/ vegetable oil
