General Arraignments occur each morning, Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m. Persons arrested overnight will be brought to Court for this initial appearance. Other persons—not in custody, may also be scheduled for 9:00 a.m. arraignments. At the arraignment each defendant will be advised of the charge against them and asked to enter a plea--generally No Contest (nolo contendere), Guilty or Not Guilty.

Upon pleas of No Contest or Guilty, the Judge will sentence the defendant. Fines of up to $750 may be levied. Some offenses may receive a jail sentence. The Judges have established a schedule of fines as a sentencing guideline. (See Fines).

A Not Guilty plea will usually require a trial scheduled for a later date. A bond may be required to insure appearance at trial. The bond will be returned or applied to the fine after the trial.

If your citation has a court appearance time of 9:00 a.m., your arraignment will occur immediately after the prisoners are arraigned. If you plead Not Guilty, your trial will be set for a later date and all necessary officers and witnesses for the City will be subpoenaed to appear for the trial. You may receive subpoena forms from the Court office to require your witnesses to appear in Court for the trial.

If your citation is not a “must appear” you may choose to enter a plea of No Contest at the Court Office on or before the scheduled court date.  Installment payments can be arranged. Contact the Court for details.

Payment can be made in person at the Court Office with cash, check, money order, or by credit card. Payment can be made by mail with check or money order. Visa or MasterCard Credit Card payments may be made by phone by calling 307-235-8267.
