Casper Fire-EMS has received official notification
from the Insurance Service Office (ISO) recommending a change in the
department’s public fire protection classification to a Class 1, with an effective
date of January 01, 2017. On a ten-point
scale with one being the best the department’s rating has improved by 2 points
from a Class 3.
This program is designed to evaluate all 48,632 fire
districts in the United States according to a uniform set of criteria as
defined in nationally recognized standards developed by the National Fire
Protection Association (NFPA). Using
this system objectively reviews the fire suppression capabilities of a
community and assigns a public protection classification number. Many fire insurance underwriters then employ
this 10-point scale as a major component when determining the premium paid by
Nationally, Casper Fire-EMS now resides within the top
0.4% of the nation’s fire departments.
The improved rating translates to insurance savings for residential
customers with most insurance companies.
This score was not realized in just one year and not
accomplished by only Casper Fire-EMS.
