WORLD CHANGERS PROGRAM
The City has a long-standing partnership with the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, World Changers. Since 1996, the City and World Changers have rehabilitated over 300 housing units. World Changers provides the volunteer labor, young people from Southern Baptist churches throughout the country, and the City provides the materials.
World Changers come to Casper for one week, usually during the later part of June or first part of July of each year. They pay their own way to Casper and sleep and eat at a local school. All labor is a volunteer effort.
World Changers can replace roofs, windows, exterior doors, storm windows, and storm doors. In addition, they will paint the exterior of the house, repair fences, clean-up yards, and build ramps for persons who need accessibility to their home due to physical impairment.
The City uses Community Development Block Grant funds to pay for materials. The program, which is done as a grant for the homeowner, is a one-time opportunity.
Usually the City receives about 50 applications for the program. About 20 housing units are rehabilitated in the one week period. Applications are taken during the month of January. Interested homeowners must call the Housing and Community Development Division to set up an appointment to complete the application.
